PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A strong second half by visiting Bridgewater State was too much for the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team to overcome. The Wildcats lost a 6-2 decision to the Bears on Monday.
Bridgewater State: 1-0
Johnson & Wales: 0-2
JWU rookie Jillian Miele scored with 10 minutes left in the first half to tie the game. She has scored in the first two games of her collegiate career. BSU's Emma Daly scored the first of her three goals six minutes later to give BSU a 2-1 halftime lead.
Sophomore Rachel DeVore scored her first goal of the year nine minutes into the second half to pull the Wildcats within 3-2. Unfortunately, BSU put the game out reach with two more goals.
Bridgewater State had a 27-21 advantage in shots. Wildcat goalkeeper Claire Nolan made 12 saves.
JWU is back at home on September 13 to host Westfield State at 7 p.m.
