Field Hockey Loses High Scoring Affair at Bridgewater State

Bridgewater, Mass. - Goals were easy to come by on Tuesday, but unfortunately the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team couldn't come up with enough of them. The Wildcats lost 7-4 decision at Bridgewater State.

Bridgewater State: 6-8

Johnson & Wales: 3-10

Statistical Leaders:

Natalie Rivas: 2 Goals, 1 Assist

Giovanna Ciavardoni: 2 Goals

Of Note:

Rookie Natalie Rivas (Andover, NJ) accounted for the Wildcats' first two goals. In the 10th minute she took a pass from Shaina Thompson (Delmar, Del.) and pushed it past the goalie on the left side. Just 1:41 into the second half she took the ball into the box and scored.

Twice senior Giovanna Ciavardoni (Latham, NY) scored in the second half to cut the BSU lead to two goals, but that's as close as the Wildcats would get. At the 66:36 mark, she put back a rebound then 90 seconds later got a pass from Rivas and scored to make it 6-4.

The two teams combined for 46 shots with the Bears holding a 31-15 advantage. Bridgewater State took nine penalty corners while the Wildcats took none.
