PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University field hockey team struck for the first goal Wednesday night, but couldn't hang on to the lead. WPI scored four unanswered goals as the Engineers defeated the Wildcats, 4-1.
Johnson & Wales: 1-4

Johnson & Wales produced the first goal in the seventh minute. Current GNAC Rookie of the Week Natalie Rivas (Andover, N.J.) pulled the ball out of a scrum and fired from point-blank range.
The Engineers answered eight minutes later when Abby O'Sullivan took a pass from Carly Cidado and scored from the left side. O'Sullivan gave WPI the lead in the 28th minute when she put back a rebound for her second goal. Her third goal came at the 49:56 mark as the Engineers scored twice in a seven-minute span.
WPI had a 16-10 advantage in shots as well as 6-2 in penalty corners. Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.) came up with 11 saves to keep the Wildcats in the game.
Johnson & Wales is on the road Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest at Anna Maria.
