TIVERTON, R.I. - The Johnson & Wales IHSA Equestrian team pulled off a second place finish at the UMass Dartmouth/Rhode Island College Fall Show at Claddagh Farm on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats finished the day with 30 points, just three behind co-host Rhode Island College.
Jennifer DePietro was the top finisher in Open Fences while she gathered a second place ribbon for her ride in Open Flat. Fellow captain Heather Jarvis earned third place in both Open Fences and Intermediate Flat to help the Wildcats on the afternoon. Alanna Ryan, Intermediate Flat (A), Sophia Johnston, Intermediate Fences, and Raquel Sousa, Novice Flat (A), were all first place finishers in their respective categories. The top three finishes in the first two divisions helped the Wildcats build a lead that remaining divisions built upon thereafter. Seven Wildcats, including Jarvis, garnered third place to help push the Wildcats to their second place finish.
This was the third competition for these teams this season and the Wildcats have built a marginal lead in the overall Zone 1 Regional 1 standings, 12 points ahead of RIC and 21 up on URI.
