Three Wildcats Advance to ISHA Zone 1 Finals

TIVERTON, RI – Three members of the Johnson & Wales University IHSA equestrian team are one step closer to advancing to the national championships. The Wildcats sent eight riders to the Region 1 Finals on Saturday at the Nora Harris Equestrian Center.

Sophomore Jennifer DePietro is moving forward in a pair of events. She won open over fences then placed second in intermediate on flat.

Classmate Cassandra Walker won walk-trot-canter to earn her spot at the zone finals. Also advancing is Erin Lavigne with a second-place finish in novice over fences.

Just missing a zone bid was Heather Jarvis as she placed third in intermediate over fences. Junior Katie Cassidy took fourth in novice on flat. Rounding out the JWU place finishers was Arrianna Landry (fifth) in walk-trot, Caitlyn Walker took sixth in novice over fences and Emily Swirsky was seven in walk-trot-canter.

The Zone 1 Finals will be held April 6 at the Mount Holyoke Equestrian Center.
