UNIONDALE, NY – Just one week before she hopefully goes for her second national championship, Johnson & Wales University's Jennifer DePietro will compete against some of the best riders in the country. The sophomore has been selected to compete at the Longines Master of New York.
The event will be held on April 25-28 at the Nassau Veteran Memorial Coliseum. Riders in the field include two-time Olympic gold medalists McLain Ward and Beezie Madden. DePietro will ride in the IHSA Metropolitan Equine Invitational, which takes place on April 26.
Considered the "Grand Slam of Indoor Show Jumping" with shows in Paris, Hong Kong and New York, the Longines has opened its competition to IHSA riders for the first time this year. DePietro earned her spot by winning the IHSA title in intermediate over fences at last year's national championship.
Preparation for the Longines Masters will fit in nicely with DePietro's preparation for the IHSA national championships. Throughout the season, riders practice once a week, but riders who advance to nationals up their sessions to three-five times per week. In advance of this competition, she will require more jumping training over jumps that are higher and over more complex courses.
JWU travels to the Zone 1 Championships on April 6, hosted by Mount Holyoke College.
