IHSA Equestrian Starts Fall Campaign Saturday

PROVIDENCE, RI – The 2017-18 season ended on a high note for the Johnson & Wales University IHSA equestrian team with the program's first individual national champion. The Wildcats start the new season Saturday when they host the JWU Fall IHSA show at the JWU Equine Center in Rehoboth, Mass.

Freshman Jennifer DePietro had quite the debut season when she won the IHSA national championship in intermediate over fences. DePietro was the first Wildcat to qualify for nationals since senior Caitlyn Walker in 2016 placed eighth in walk-trot-canter.

Walker was close to qualifying for nationals for a second time as she advanced to the 2018 regional finals. The Swanzey, NH native took eighth in the novice on flat competition.

Also back for head coach Dirk Fogg is senior Hannah Coutu. She placed fifth in the intermediate flat event at the 2017 regionals. Sophomore Alanna Ryan had a good rookie campaign in 2017-18, including a victory in novice on flat at the UMass Dartmouth show.

Following the home show, the Wildcats travel to Becker College on October 20. IHSA regionals and nationals will be held during the spring season.
