IDA Equestrian Advances to Nationals

REHOBOTH, Mass. – Needing a good showing in its final show of the regular season, the Johnson & Wales University IDA equestrian team came through on Saturday. The Wildcats' second-place finish earned them the right to compete at the IDA National Championship.

Johnson & Wales won the season-long regional competition with 69 points. The entire JWU contingency will compete at the IDA nationals, April 27-28, hosted by Lake Erie College.

Junior Maggie Dickey won the first level competition on Saturday with a score of 67.037 to take the regional title. In addition to the team competition, she will ride in the individual first level competition at nationals after winning the region with 28 points.

Coming in second in the region was junior Lindsey Vollinger. She took fifth on Saturday at 60.926 to finish with 22 points for the year.

Winning high point rider of the day was Maria Arato with a winning score of 69.310 in upper level. She finished fourth in the region behind teammates Samantha Kondej and Katherine Samkavitz.

Sophomore Savannah Hoglan took second in lower training with a score of 69 percent and Caitlyn Gilmore took fourth with a 65.5. Hogland was third in the region.

In intro level, Kayla McCurley took third at 65.625. She took fourth in the region.
