The IHSA team earned a second place finish at the UMass Dartmouth IHSA Show at Claddagh Farm on Saturday afternoon. The win boosted them from fifth place to third overall in the Zone 1, Region 1 standings.
Sophomore Annie Kononchik (Woolwich, N.J.) led the charge with two first place finishes on the day; one in Novice Flat and the other in Novice Fences. She was tabbed as the High Point Rider of the Day guiding JWU to their second place finish. Kononchik was accompanied by six other Wildcat riders to earn first place on the afternoon.
Senior Rebecca Hein (Tranquility, N.J.) won the Open Flat while sophomores Talia Dicicco (Providence, R.I.) and Emma Blydenburgh (Westhampton, N.Y.) took home a blue ribbon in Novice Flat and Advanced Walk Trot Canter, respectively. Freshmen Paige Humphrey (Colchester, Conn.) and Sarah DeLee (Nashua, N.H.) both won sections in the Intermediate Flat while classmate Lily van Gemeren (Winchester, Mass.) won her Advanced W/T/C class.
Sophomore Matthew Hampson (Fuquay Varina, N.C.) picked up a second place finish in Walk Trot while classmates Amanda Cordingley (Central Islip, N.Y.) and Hannah Rees (Amherst, N.H.) followed suit in the runner-up position in their respective categories.
To cap off the impressive day for the Wildcats, Emma Blydenburgh's win qualified her for Regional Finals which will be held in March.
The team will compete in the University of Rhode Island IHSA Show on Saturday, November 9th.
