Smiegocki’s Gem Advances JWU Baseball 7-0 Over Anna Maria

PROVIDENCE, RI – In the final home game of his collegiate career, Johnson & Wales University baseball pitcher James Smiegocki turned in perhaps the best performance of his career. He threw a complete-game shutout as the Wildcats defeated Anna Maria College, 7-0, in the first round of the GNAC Tournament on Wednesday.

Of Note:
The win advances the Wildcats to the double elimination portion of the GNAC Tournament. Johnson & Wales travels to Saint Joseph's (Me.) for a 4 p.m. contest on Thursday.

The Lambertville, NJ native only surrendered five hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts. Smiegocki did not allow a runner to get past second base the entire day.

Colby Greenhalgh got the scoring started in the third with an RBI single to score Tim Lombardi.

Lombardi came around to score again in the fifth on Alex Domingos' single. Adam Diehl followed with a single that plated Domingos and Rich Bourdeau.

JWU got a pair of insurance runs in the eighth on solo home runs from Aidan Hagarty and Steve Rocchio.
