Wildcats Rally to Sweep Cadets

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Needing a pair of wins to keep up with the league leaders, the Johnson & Wales University baseball team came through with a sweep at Norwich on Sunday. The Wildcats took the opener, 11-5, then scored four runs in the fifth inning to win game two, 5-2.

Norwich: 6-22, 4-11 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 22-12, 11-3 GNAC

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales got out to a fast start with seven runs in the first three innings of game one. Retsyn Ootton had a two-run single in the first and Colby Greenhalgh drove in a pair with a single in the third.

The Wildcats got a trio of insurance runs in the seventh. Greenhalgh got a bases loaded walk while Joe Maracic and Adam Diehl had RBI singles.

Junior Tom Doran worked six innings to pick up his second win of the season. He gave up four runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.

JWU starter Ryan Depatie gave up a run in the first and fourth innings before the bats came alive in the fifth. Diehl's groundout scored Vin Amalfitano then Armani Henderson and Aidan Hagarty hit back-to-back home runs.

Depatie retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced to get his second win of the season. He surrendered five hits with seven strikeouts.

Up Next:
Johnson & Wales wraps up the regular season on Monday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Colby-Sawyer. A pair of wins would make the Wildcats the #2 seed for the upcoming GNAC Tournament and give them a first round bye.
