PROVIDENCE, RI – Down six runs going into the bottom of the ninth, the Johnson & Wales University baseball team rallied to defeat UMass Dartmouth. Francisco Diaz hit a walk-off grand slam to lift the Wildcats to a 13-12 victory.

Johnson & Wales: 19-12

In the bottom of the ninth, Adam Diehl was walked with the bases loaded to get the first run. Retsyn Ootton followed with a single to score Colby Greenhalgh and an Alex Domingos sacrifice fly plated Tim Lombardi.
Nick Lloyd drew a walk to load the bases again then Diaz delivered the home run to center field off UMD reliever Max Penton.
The Corsairs benefited from a pair of JWU miscues in the first two innings. An error in the first allowed the Corsairs to get a pair of runs then a wild pitch plated a run in the second.
Rich Bourdeau helped the Wildcats get back into the game. He scored Lloyd with a double in the second then plated Lloyd again in the fourth on a triple. Anthony Roman followed with a double to score Bourdeau and cut the UMD lead to 5-4.
UMass Dartmouth scored in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including a solo home run by Nate Tellier.
Johnson & Wales cut the lead to 8-6 in the seventh. Diehl delivered a double to score Lombardi and Joe Maracic. Diehl has a hit in eighth-straight games and 13 of his last 14.
Saturday's doubleheader at Norwich has been postponed. JWU is back on the field Monday when it travels to Albertus Magnus for a 4 pm doubleheader.
