Baseball Splits With Suffolk
PROVIDENCE, RI – Inclement weather delayed the start of the GNAC baseball doubleheader between Johnson & Wales University and Suffolk University and it also stopped it as well. Suffolk took game one, 12-5, then JWU captured game two, 3-1, after the game was stopped in the top of the sixth inning due to heavy fog.
Suffolk: 18-11-1, 11-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 18-10, 8-2 GNAC
Johnson & Wales took a 3-1 lead into the top of the sixth inning of game two. The game was halted due to dense fog that made playing conditions unsafe.
Colby Greenhalgh opened the scoring in game two with a solo home run in the third. It was his team-leading third home run. In the fourth, Aidan Hagarty drove in Alex Domingos with a double then crossed the plate himself on an Anthony Roman double.
An error in the fifth with two outs allowed Suffolk to score its lone run off JWU starter James Smiegocki. He gave up three hits with seven strikeouts to get his fourth win of the year. Suffolk's Kevin Sinatra took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits.
Suffolk jumped all over JWU game one starter Josh Mousseau, scoring three runs in the first inning and five more in the second. The Rams sent nine batters to the plate in the second inning.
Johnson & Wales cut the lead in half with a run in the third and three more in the fifth. JWU only had two hits in the fifth as the runs came via two sacrifice flies and a hit by pitch.
The Rams got a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Worth Wolrod got the victory for the Rams, tossing six innings with five runs, four earned, and three strikeouts. Mousseau was saddled with the loss.
The Wildcats are on the road Sunday to face Albertus Magnus at 1 p.m.
