WALTHAM, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales University baseball team was staring at being swept during Sunday's GNAC doubleheader at Lasell until a late-inning rally salvage a sweep. The Wildcats took game two, 5-3, after dropping the opener 3-0.
Lasell: 13-11, 4-4 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 17-6, 7-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Adam Diehl got the scoring started with a single to plate Anthony Roman. Armani Henderson followed with a double that allowed Tim Lombardi to score then crossed the plate along with Diehl on Francisco Diaz's single.
After allowing three runs in the first three innings, JWU starter James Smiegocki shutdown the Lasers the rest of the game. He gave up eight hits with five strikeout
Lasell took the opener despite being held to only two hits. A throwing error allowed the first run to score in the third then Joe Sullivan hit a two-run home run in the fourth.
Josh Mousseau took the loss, giving up three runs, two earned, on two hits with four strikeouts.
The Wildcats are back at home Tuesday to take on Salve Regina at 3:30 p.m.
