PROVIDENCE, RI – Strong pitching from starter Jake Hernandez and the bullpen led the Johnson & Wales University baseball team to victory on Thursday. The Wildcats topped Bridgewater State University, 6-2.
Bridgewater State: 5-9
Johnson & Wales: 15-5
The two teams traded a pair of runs in the first inning. BSU's Kevin Bresciani drove home a run then scored himself on a JWU error. Joe Maracic and Aidan Hagarty each drew a walk then scored on Armani Henderson's double to tie the game.
JWU got two more in the fifth on RBI singles from Maracic and Colby Greenhalgh to take a 4-2 lead.
Hagarty and Maracic drove in insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Hernandez worked six innings to get his second win in a row. He gave up two runs, one earned, on four hits.
Johnson & Wales is back on the diamond Friday when it travels to Curry for a 3 p.m. contest.
