Oliver selected to AVCA Region 1 First Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Peyton Oliver has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Region 1 First Team.

Named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) First Team earlier this week, Oliver led he conference and sits No. 9 in the NCAA in kills/set at 4.38; her 438 total kills is the 15th highest total in the nation. The Ramsey, New Jersey native reached double-digit kills in 24 of 28 matches, including six 20-kill efforts, highlighted by a 27-kill performance in the GNAC Quarterfinals against St. Joseph's (ME).

Named GNAC Player of the Week four times this season, Oliver notched six double-doubles (kills-digs), including a 23-kill, 15-dig effort against Baruch on September 9 and a 23-kill, 11-dig match hours later against Wesleyan (CT). Oliver – who became this seventh student-athlete in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark for her career this season – also collected 40 blocks (13 solo), 48 service aces (No. 12 in GNAC), and 12 assists this season.

There are 14 All-Region team members and six honorable mention selections for each of the 10 regions. Additionally, a Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year were selected for each region. The 200 student-athletes who made All-Region represent 105 different schools. Leading the way with five selections apiece are Berry, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Juniata, New York University, and Springfield.

Chelsea Simmons of Simmons was the only other GNAC student-athletes recognized by the AVCA as she received Honorable Mention accolades.
