WINTHROP, Mass. – As successful as the Johnson & Wales University athletics department is in competition, the Wildcats are equally as accomplished in the classroom. Johnson & Wales had 110 student-athletes on the GNAC Academic All-Conference team as announced by league commissioner Joe Walsh.
In order to be eligible for the league's academic all-conference squad, a student must have a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have reached second-year academic status.
It's the third time in the last four years that Johnson & Wales has had over 100 honorees. Last year, Johnson & Wales set a GNAC record with 123 representatives. This year the Wildcats came in second behind Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
Leading all teams was the softball program with 13 members of the academic all-conference team. Women's volleyball and field hockey each had 11 honorees. On the men's side, baseball, men's lacrosse and men's soccer shared top honors with eight selections.
As a department, Johnson & Wales finished the year with a 3.22 cumulative GPA. Eighteen teams posted a 3.0 GPA or better, 252 student-athletes made the Dean's List (3.40 GPA and higher) and 82 recorded a perfect 4.0.
