The women's volleyball squad swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match against Albertus Magnus and St. Joseph's of Maine at the Harborside Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. In the first match of the day, JWU posted a 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-5) victory against Albertus Magnus. St. Joseph's of Maine then defeated AMC by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-11). Johnson &U Wales wrapped up the afternoon with a 3-2 (28-26, 17-25, 25-20,19-25, 15-11) win over St. Joseph's.
In the first match, Johnson & Wales was paced by senior Karlie Haack (Selkirk, N.Y.) with nine kills and four digs while junior Natasha Finkbeiner (Belgrade, Mont.) had 20 set assists in the victory for the Wildcats. Junior Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) led the way for Albertus Magnus with seven kills and eight digs while junior Nicole Accera (East Haven, Conn.) notched 20 digs in the loss for the Falcons.
Senior Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine) led the way for St. Joseph's of Maine against Albertus Magnus with 16 kills and 11 digs while senior Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine) notched 34 set assists for the Monks. Manning paced the Falcons with eight kills and six digs in the setback.
The final match of the day saw the host Wildcats with the thrilling 3-2 victory. Haack led the way for Johnson & Wales, registering 11 kills and six digs while sophomore Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) narrowly missed a triple-double with nine kills, 24 assists and 16 digs. Hawkes recorded a match-high 17 kills and added 23 digs in the loss for the Monks.
With the pair of victories Johnson & Wales is now 9-14 overall and in 4-2 league play while Albertus Magnus falls to 7-9 for the year and 1-6 in league play. St. Joseph's of Maine improves to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference. JWU will return to action on Wednesday, October 10th when they host Emmanuel in a GNAC contest, starting at 7:00 p.m.
