Women’s Volleyball Takes Fifth At New Paltz Invitational
The women's volleyball squad traveled to the New Paltz Invitational over the weekend and notched a fifth-place finish. On Friday, the Wildcats opened the weekend with a 3-1 (9-25, 23-25, 25-12, 15-25) loss to Clarkson and a 3-2 (12-25, 25-14, 25-21, 17-25, 4-15) setback against Mount St. Mary. Saturday saw the Wildcats fall to host New Paltz by a score of 3-0 (12-25, 14-25, 24-26) and finish with a 3-0 (11-25, 20-25, 9-25) loss to Fredonia.
Senior Audrey Warren (Haverhill, Mass.) led the way for JWU against Clarkson with six kills and four blocks while junior Karlie Haack (Selkirk, N.Y.) had five kills and two digs for the Wildcats. Against Mount St. Mary, Warren once again led the squad with 14 kills and six digs while sophomore Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.) notched a team-high 13 digs and 18 set assists for the Wildcats.
In the first game of the day on Saturday against host New Paltz, Warren registered eight kills and three digs while sophomore Natasha Finkbeiner (Belgrade, Mont.) had 10 set assists for the Wildcats. Warren wrapped up her solid play for the weekend with five kills in the loss to Fredonia to close out the tournament.
The Wildcats are now 1-10 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, September 20th when they travel to Amherst for a non-conference contest at 7:00 p.m.
