KANSAS CITY, Mo. – One of the top teams in the region, the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team is being recognized for its work in the classroom. The Wildcats were honored with a Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches.
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must record at least a 3.00 grade point average. Last season, the Wildcats had a squad GPA of 3.28, which ranked fifth in the GNAC.
Johnson & Wales has earned the Team Academic Award in each of Chris Flint's first two seasons as head coach. The Wildcats raised their GPA from a 3.15 in 2015-16 to a 3.28 last year.
Over the summer, Johnson & Wales placed 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-GNAC team, which recognizes student-athletes with a 3.25 GPA and above that have reached sophomore status.
