EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Three goals in a 20-minute span propelled the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team to victory on Wednesday. The Wildcats won their eighth game in a row by beating Suffolk, 4-1.
Suffolk: 4-6, 3-5 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 12-2, 5-0 GNAC
During the winning streak, Johnson & Wales has scored 38 goals while only surrendering five.
Deja Hursey (Columbia, Md.) scored a goal for the sixth game in a row when she found the back of the net in the 37th minute. Hursey added her GNAC-leading 18th goal of the year at the 56:48 mark of the second half.
Hursey factored into the first three Johnson & Wales' goals. Her pass set up Gabriella Weithofer (East Longmeadow, Mass.) for the eventual game-winning goal in the 44th minute.
Johnson & Wales had a 25-8 advantage in shots. Wildcat goalkeeper Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Mass.) only had to make three saves to pick up her 12th win of the year.
Johnson & Wales takes on Simmons Saturday at 5 p.m. to cap off a day-long celebration of the annual JWU homecoming.
