WESTON, Mass. – A second-half offensive surge led the Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team to victory. The Wildcats remained undefeated in the conference with a 5-2 win at Regis on Wednesday.
Regis: 2-6-1, 1-5-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 10-2, 7-0 GNAC
In the waning moments of the first half, Erin Quinty (Rutland, Mass.) took the ball into the box unchallenged and beat the Regis keeper for her second goal of the season.
Just three minutes into the second half, Kyra Selner (Sterling, Va.) scored the first of her two goals. Her shot hit the far post and went into the goal. In the final three minutes of the match, she chipped the ball over the goalkeeper for her first multi-goal game of the season.
Four minutes after Selner's first goal, Deja Hursey (Columbia, Md.) tallied the eventual game-winner. She put back the rebound for her first goal at the 52:40 mark then scored again five minutes later. Hursey is tied with teammate Olivia Cairrao for the league lead at 14 goals.
The Wildcats had a 19-10 margin in shots and did not give up a corner kick to Regis while taking six themselves. Goalkeeper Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) made three saves, but had her scoreless streak stopped at 453:09 minutes.
Johnson & Wales is at home on Monday to take on UMass Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
