Gerrish, Sypek and Donati Named To All-Conference Team
The JWU women’s soccer team had three players named to the 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference selections, announced by the league office. Johnson & Wales finished the season with an 11-8-2 record, while recording a 9-2-2 record in the GNAC.
Senior midfielder Kaitlyn Gerrish (North Stonington, CT) was named first team All-Conference. In her fourth year with the Wildcats, Gerrish played in a team leading 20 games recording 7 goals and 8 assists. Gerrish put 27 shots on goal and also had a team high 22 points.
The Wildcats had two other selections to the All-GNAC squads. Awarded second team All-Conference honors were sophomore defender Lauren Donati (Saugus, MA) and freshman forward Kayla Sypek (Westhampton, MA). Donati played in 17 games for the Wildcats, providing outstanding defense for JWU. Kayla Sypek made an immediate impact during her first year on the field as she led the Wildcats in games played (20), goals (8), and added 3 crucial game winning goals. Sypek was also named the GNAC Rookie of the Year. Freshman defender Maggie Castle (Andover, NJ) was named to the All-Conference sportsmanship team.
