Women’s Soccer Suffers 1-0 Setback to Suffolk in GNAC Quarterfinals
The women's soccer team suffered a heart breaking 1-0 loss to Suffolk University in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday afternoon. Suffolk senior Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) lofted in a shot with just over five minutes left in the first half for the games only goal.
Johnson & Wales controlled the action early in the contest and held a 6-4 advantage in shots for the first half. Hayden's goal came at the 39:06 mark of the half after beating a Wildcat defender one-on-one before she lofted the shot over the charging goalkeeper.
In the second half, the Wildcats took control of the action with an impressive ten shots on goal. JWU couldn't convert, however as Suffolk held on for the 1-0 victory.
Sophomore Kara Collins (Arlington, N.J.) made two saves in the loss for Johnson & Wales while freshman Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) had 12 stops for Suffolk in the victory.
With the loss Johnson & Wales ends their season with an 11-8-2 record while Suffolk improves to 10-7-1 on the season. The Rams advance to the GNAC semifinals on Tuesday, November 1st to take on the winner of Albertus Magnus and Simmons.
