Women’s Soccer Wraps Up 2010 Campaign With 3-0 Loss To St. Joseph of Connecticut In GNAC Quarterfinals
The sixth seeded Johnson & Wales University women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback against third-seeded St. Joseph of Connecticut in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championshipon the road on Sunday afternoon.
St. Joseph took the early lead when Stacey Rutledge converted a penalty kick at the 17:41 mark. The host Blue Jays increased their lead to 2-0 in the 23rd minute after Patricia Nolan converted a cross from Kelley Downey from eight yards out. SJC had the two goal lead heading into halftime.
Patricia Nolan capped off the scoring for the afternoon in the 80th minute when she collected a loose ball in the box and buried a shot from five yards out. St. Joseph then held on for the 3-0 victory.
Senior Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) made five saves in the loss for Johnson & Wales while Holly Mirabella made four stops in the win for St. Joseph.
With the loss Johnson & Wales ends the season with to 8-11-1 overall while St. Joseph College of Connect improves to 15-3-1 for the year.
