Women's Soccer Falls to Castleton State, 4-1
The Johnson & Wales women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision against Castleton State in a non-conference contest at Spartan Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Megan Blongy (Rutland, Vt.) scored twice, including the eventual game-winner, to lead the Spartans to the victory.
Johnson & Wales junior Amanda Aguiar (Fall River, Mass.) put the Wildcats on the scoreboard first at the 10:36 mark after burying a shot into the left corner of the net. Hilary Cooke responded for Castleton State at 19:54 to tie the score at 1-1. Megan Blongy (Rutland, Vt.) gave Castleton a lead at the 23:11 mark putting in a loose ball off of a free kick from Meryssa Wacholder for a 2-1 lead. Sarah Ethier added insurance for the Spartans at 33:53 to send the game into halftime with Castleton leading 3-1.
In the second half, JWU had several chances but weren't able to capitalize before Blongy scored her second goal of the game to propel the Spartans to the 4-1 victory.
Senior Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) made four stops in the setback for Johnson & Wales while Ericka Davis had six saves in the win for Castleton State
With the loss JWU falls to 0-3 while Castleton State improves to 1-1 for the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, September 8th when they host Coast Guard in a non-conference contest, starting at 3:30 p.m.
