JWU Women’s Soccer Shut Out By Worcester State, 3-0

East Providence, R.I. – Senior Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, Mass.) tallied two goals in Worcester State's 3-0 shut out victory against Johnson & Wales in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Pierce Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The two teams battled throughout a scoreless first half, despite Worcester State having a 9-3 advantage in shots for the half.

Worcester struck early in the second half when Feeley put in a pass from junior Stefani Bonetti (Plymouth, Mass.) to give the Lancers the 1-0 lead the 46:03 mark. Feely's second goal of the game, this time an unassisted tally, put Worcester State up 2-0 at the 55:03 mark. Worcester State added an insurance goal late in the contest when senior Stephanie Demake (Auburn, Mass.) headed in a corner kick from freshman Daryl Powell (Beverly, Mass.) in the 69th minute. The visiting Lancers had a 21-4 advantage in shots for the game.

Junior Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, N.Y.) had four saves in the loss for JWU while junior Rachel Armenti (West Boylston, Mass.) one stop in the win for Worcester State.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 7-5 while Worcester State improves to 6-5-1 on the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, October 17th when they travel to St. Joseph's of Maine for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest, starting at 1:00 p.m.
