PHILADELPHIA – The Johnson & Wales University women's rowing team held its own with some of the best programs on the East Coast at the 51st Annual Kerr Cup. The Wildcats raced on the 2,000-meter course on the Schuylkill River.
In the Varsity Eight competition, the A boat finished second in their preliminary heat then took fifth in the finals. Coxswain Elizabeth Conover-Prentiss (Belmont, Mass.) and stroke Jaym Henderson (Woodstock, Vt.) led JWU to a time of 7:46.68 in the finals.
The B boat dropped three seconds from the prelims to the Petite Finals where they placed fifth in 8:31.25. Elise Bray (DeLancey, NY) handled the coxswain duties and Jillian Sartucci (South Weymouth, Mass.) was the stroke.
Johnson & Wales also had an entry in the Varsity Four race. Coxswain Izsaiah Amado (Tauton, Mass.) and stroke Tatiana Windley (Bronx, NY) helped the Wildcats to a third-place showing in the prelims and took fifth in the finals with a time of 9:43.27.
Up next for Johnson & Wales is the first home regatta in the program's history when it hosts Bryant and Franklin Pierce on April 22.
