SMITHFIELD, RI – After earning its first medals two weeks ago, the Johnson & Wales University rowing team climbed the last hurdle on Saturday. The Wildcats Varsity Eight defeated Bryant University for the first-year program's first victory at the Stillwater Reservoir.
Led by coxswain Elizabeth Conover-Prentiss (Belmont, Mass.) and stroke Amy Erskine (Somers Point, NJ), the Wildcats recovered from an early deficit to beat the Bulldogs by 36 seconds. Johnson & Wales posted a time of 8:11 on the 2,000m course.
Guided by coxswain Elise Bray and stroke Logan Corbett, the Frosh Eight was a close second with a time of 9:16.32. The Varsity Four posted a second-place time of 8:42.75 and the Frosh Four came across in 9:32.72.
Johnson & Wales wraps up the season on Saturday at the Atlantic Rowing Conference Championships in Lewisberry, Pa.
