Lonnie Morris was an NCAA Div. III Wrestling All-American, a two-time New England Champion and earned All-New England honors four times in the heavyweight weight class during his career on the mat from 1990-94. Morris is one of a select group of Rhode Island College wrestlers to accumulate 100 or more wins during his career. He was named to the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Hall of Fame, the 2006 RIC Hall of Fame, and the 2011 Rhode Island Wrestling Hall of Fame. In 1997 Coach Morris became Johnson & Wales University first Head Wrestling Coach, and has built the Wildcats’ squad into a regional and national power from the ground up. He was named the NEWA Rookie Coach of the Year in 1998 and was the Coach of the Year in 2000,2004 and 2007. The program has been ranked as high as 4th nationally, won the NEWA Duals four times(2002,2006,2008,2009) and have captured the Pilgrim Wrestling League title ten times (2000, 2002, 2005-2012), and captured the teams first ever NEWA Conference Championship in 2007. In 2011, his Wildcat squad were crowned as the GPA National Champions. Serving as Head Coach for the last 16 years Morris as accumulated 10 All-Americans, 21 Academic All-Americans, 20 Conference Champions and has a 216-106-4 Dual meet record. He resides in Barrington, Rhode Island with his wife Katherine. He is the proud father of two daughters, Cortney and Taylor and son Jackson.

Brian Allen class of 1991 is one of the finest wrestlers in Rhode Island College history. He was a two time NCAA All-American, earning honors in 1989 at 126 pounds and in 1991 at 134 pounds. He owns a collegiate career record of 141-33 with 45 wins by fall. After college, Allen continued to wrestle and owns a lifetime record of 376-49. He was a four-time Conference Champion, winning at 126 pounds in1988, ’89 and ’90, and at 134 pounds in 1991. Allen has 14 individual titles to his credit. Allen has been inducted into the inaugural 2002 NEWA Hall of Fame, the 2002 RIC Hall of Fame, 2004 Rhode Island Wrestling Hall of Fame and the 2004 Burrillville Hall of Fame. After his college career was over, Allen went on to coach wrestling at Burrillville High School (1992-97) and was the Assistant Coach at RIC in 1997-98. In 1999 he joined the newly formed JWU wrestling team. In his 14 years at the helm he has been named the NEWA Assistant Coach of the Year twice (2004,2007). In 2010 Allen was promoted to Associate Head Coach. He has also coached wrestling for over 20 years. He is currently a physical education teacher in the Providence Public School System. He resides in Burrillville, Rhode Island with his wife Melissa and two daughters Haley and Riley.
James Gilbert

The first NCAA All-American in the history of Johnson & Wales University in any sport, wrestler James Gilbert was the personification of student-athlete excellence. Gilbert, who wrestled mostly at157 or 165 pounds, was regionally ranked throughout his entire four-year career. After winning the New England 165-pound title in his senior year, he took a 36-2 record into the 2002 NCAA National Championships, where he finished seventh, thus earning a berth on the NCAA Division III All-American team at 165 pounds. The first to ever record over 100 wins in a Johnson & Wales career,Gilbert won 123 matches from 1999-2002, including 37 by pin. A three-time Scholar All-American as recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the entrepreneurship major from Bristol, New Hampshire. After graduating JWU coach Gilbert joined the coaching staff and is now in his 11th year with the program.He is currently employed by Citizens Bank and resides in Providence, Rhode Island with his wife Carla.

Kyle Kanaga enters his second year with the Wildcat program, arriving from Division 2 power Ashland University (Ohio). Kyle brought a new dynamic and youthful energy to the program that it so desperately needed to help propel the already highly successful program to the next level. During his tenure at Ashland, Kyle was a 2x Midwest Conference Finalist and a 2x NCAA National Qualifier, captaining his Eagles in the 2010-11 season. Kyle brings his 3x NCAA Academic All-American status to JWU, which helped reinforce the Universities projection of the Student-Athlete in Athletics . In High School he was a State Champion and Outstanding wrestler out of North Carolina. Then garnered the highly impressive High School All-American status. Kyle graduated from Ashland University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He currently resides in Warwick, Rhode Island.
