PROVIDENCE, RI – Even though the season has been over for two months, the awards keep coming in for Johnson & Wales University wrestler Stephen Jarrell. He was recently honored with a selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District At-Large Team.
Jarrell (East Greenwich, RI) is the first JWU male athlete to receive a nod to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. He is now eligible for All-America consideration.
With a 3.85 grade point average, while pursuing his master's degree in business administration, this is his second academic award of the year. Earlier he was recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association with a Scholar All-American award.
On the mat, Jarrell had perhaps the most dominant season in school history to cap his career. The NCAA runner-up at 165 pounds, he led all three NCAA divisions with 18 technical falls while breaking the school record for takedowns. Jarrell helped lead the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the best in school history.
