LOS ANGELES – A fast start led Occidental College to victory over the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team on Tuesday. The Wildcats lost a 19-7 decision to the Tigers.
The loss was JWU's first of the year, evening its record at 1-1. Occidental improved to 4-1.
Occidental had a 6-0 lead before the Wildcats got on the board. Madeline Bishara picked up JWU's first goal at the 16:39 mark of the first half. Back-to-back goals by Dani Lydecker and Raquel Pederzani pulled JWU within 9-3, but that's as close as the Wildcats would get the rest of the way.
Both Lydecker and Pederzani scored late in the second half for their second goals of the game. Lydecker has scored two goals in each of her first two collegiate games.
The Tigers had a 41-17 advantage in shots and controlled the game by winning 22 of 28 draw controls.
Johnson & Wales wraps up its spring break trip on Friday against Chapman at 6 p.m.
