PROVIDENCE, RI – The goals have been bountiful the last three games for the Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team. The Wildcats scored at least 19 goals for the third game in a row as they went on the road to defeat Norwich, 21-6.
Johnson & Wales: 6-4, 2-0 GNAC
Norwich: 4-2, 0-2 GNAC
Gabrielle Vasile (JWU): 4 goals, 1 assist
Raquel Pederzani (JWU): 5 goals, 2 assists
Lydia Knapp (JWU): 3 goals, 1 assist
Norwich scored seven minutes into the game to pull within 3-1, but from there the Wildcats rattled off eight unanswered goals. Juniors Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, RI) and Gabrielle Vasile (Milford, Mass.) each scored twice during the run. The Wildcats went into the locker room with a 13-2 advantage.
Pederzani and Vasile led all players with five and four goals, respectively. JWU had six players score multiple goals, including senior Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, NY) as she tallied three with one assist.
Johnson & Wales dominated the draw controls, winning 19-of-28, including six by Vasile. She also grabbed a game-high three ground balls as JWU had a 14-12 margin in that category. The Wildcats also outshot Norwich, 34-18.
Johnson & Wales is back in action Saturday when it travels to Lasell for a 12 p.m. rematch of last year's GNAC Championship game.
