Women’s Lacrosse Opens GNAC Play With 19-5 Rout of Rivier

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's lacrosse team jumped all over visiting Rivier at the onset of Saturday's game and never looked backed. The Wildcats posted a 19-5 victory against the Raiders.

Rivier: 1-4, 0-1 GNAC    
Johnson & Wales: 4-4, 1-0 GNAC

Statistical Leaders:
Alexandra Anton (JWU): 2 goals, 1 assist
Raquel Pederzani (JWU): 3 goals, 2 assists
Lydia Knapp (JWU): 3 goals, 2 assists

Of Note:
The Wildcats got out to a 9-0 lead just 13 minutes into the first half. Junior Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, RI) scored all three of her goals during that run and Alexandra Anton (Dix Hills, NY) found the back of the net twice.

After Rivier got on the board midway through the half, the Wildcats ended the first 30 minutes with a 7-0 run to take a 16-1 lead into the locker room. Senior Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, NY) scored the second of her three goals during that stretch. She tied Pederzani for the team lead as each player had three goals and two assists.

Johnson & Wales had a 42-19 advantage in shots as well as a 35-17 margin for ground balls.  Rivier goalie Courtney Laperriere made 15 saves. Amanda Barton scored two of the Raiders' five goals.

The Wildcats play their final non-conference game of the season on Thursday when they welcome Salve Regina to town for a 7 p.m. contest.
