The women's lacrosse team defeated fellow first-year program Albertus Magnus, 18-2, on the road on Tuesday afternoon. Freshmen Megan Brown (Great Mills, Md.) and Lydia Knapp (Glens Falls, N.Y.) and junior Toni-Anne Mule (Lake Grove, N.Y.) each tallied three goals apiece in the win for the Wildcats.
JWU went up 3-0 early on back-to-back goals by sophomore Jessica Schmell (Coopersburg, Pa.) just 3:55 into the first half. The Wildcats gave up their lone goal of the half before six different players found the back of the net giving them the 11-1 advantage at halftime. Brown and freshman Kayla Smith (Eastham, Mass.) gave JWU the 13-1 lead ten minutes into the second half. The Falcons Miranda Jassil tallied her second of the game to bring the score to 13-2. JWU connected five more times down the stretch, including Smith and Brittany Manfro's (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) second goals of the game en route to the 18-2 victory.
Junior Genevieve Giampietro (Meriden, Conn.) made one save and picked up her sixth win on the season for the Wildcats while Erika Blechert made 14 saves in the setback for Albertus Magnus.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in GNAC action while the Falcons fall to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, April 5th when they travel to Rivier for a GNAC contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
