Women’s Ice Hockey Gets First Win 3-2 Over UMass Boston

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team jumped out to an early lead and held on for their first New England Hockey Conference victory. The Wildcats defeated UMass Boston, 3-2, on Saturday.

JWU: Jasmine Mucci (W, 1-4) 19 Saves, 2 Goals
UMass: Alyssa DePippo (L, 2-4) 19 Saves, 2 Goals

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales started the first period with a barrage of shots. Caitlin Sweet was the first to score in the 13th minute, slapping in a rebound from a scuffle in front of net.

The Wildcats increased their lead to two goals when Cassie Wakefield dumped the puck into the UMB zone where Hannah Tracy retrieved it and put it past Alyssa Depippo for the score.

The Beacon's answered in the second period with Bri Colucci scoring on a power play, assisted by Jane Morrisette.

Johnson & Wales got the eventual winning goal in the third period when Kathryn Mason sealed the deal with a penalty shot. 

With five minutes left in the game, the Beacons' Edy Moritz scored on the power play to reduce the lead to one, but JWU held on for its first win.

Freshman Jasmine Mucci stopped 19 shots in goal for her first collegiate victory.
