Women’s Ice Hockey Falls 2-0 to Sacred Heart in Season Opener

PAWTUCKET, RI – Despite several good chances, the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team couldn't break through for their first goal of the 2018-19 season. The Wildcats started the new year with a 2-0 loss to Sacred Heart on Friday.

Johnson & Wales starts the year 0-1 while the Pioneers improved to 3-3-1.

Just two and half minutes into the contest, SHU's Anna Klein broke through for a short-handed goal. The Pioneers would score on the power play at the 6:02 mark of the second period.

Wildcats' goaltender Jasmine Mucci stopped 36 of 38 shots in her collegiate debut. Sacred Heart goalie Sarah Erban stopped all 23 shots for the shutout.

The two teams are back on the ice Saturday when JWU travels to Sacred Heart for a 5:30 pm contest.
