Women’s Hockey Defeated in Overtime 4-3 by Nichols

PROVIDENCE, RI – An extra attacker kept the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team from victory on Thursday during their annual game at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Wildcats lost a 4-3 decision in overtime to Nichols.

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales took its first lead of the game when Kathy Ensor (St. Louis, Mo.) redirected Taylor Davis' (Windsor, NY) shot just 2:46 into the third period.

Nichols pulled its goalie late in the third period and Mikayla Castro forced overtime when she scored with just 42 seconds left in regulation. A JWU penalty put the Bison on the power play and Callie Jackson ended the contest when she scored at the 3:11 mark.

After Nichols jumped out to an early lead, Johnson & Wales tied the game with 2:14 left in the period.  Hannah Tracy (Hanson, Mass.) fed the puck to Cassie Wakefield (North Vancouver, BC) and she buried it in the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Bison scored with 49 seconds left in the first period, but Johnson & Wales evened it again with the lone goal of the second period. Linn Fernström (Karlstad, Sweden) put back the rebound of Julia Martinsson's (Charlottenberg, Sweden) missed shot.
