PAWTUCKET, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team pulled even with visiting Stevenson in the third period, but the Mustangs came up with the game-winner. The Wildcats lost a 3-2 decision to Stevenson on Saturday.
Johnson & Wales: 5-9-3
SU: Annie Smith-Hammond (2-2-3): 25 Saves, 2 Goals
JWU: Kami Weiner (5-9-3), 27 Saves, 3 Goals
The Mustangs answered with a putback of their own. Angelica Saluzzo's wraparound shot was stopped, but Kelly Wittman was there to collect the rebound and put it in the back of the net. Stevenson took the lead in the second period when Chelsea Blackburn skated the length of the ice and beat Kami Weiner with a wrist shot to the top shelf.
The Wildcats pulled even with a goal halfway through the third period. Taylor Davis' (Windsor, NY) shot was saved but Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) was there to collect the rebound and score her second goal in as many games.
Stevenson broke the tie five minutes later when Sarah Antonelli collected the loose puck in front of the net and scored her first goal of the season.
The Wildcats are back on the ice next Saturday to take on Castleton at 5:35 p.m.
