Women’s Ice Hockey Defeats Pilgrims 3-2

PAWTUCKET, RI – On the cusp of overtime, freshman Hannah Tracy came up with the game-winning goal for the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team. The Wildcats started 2018 with a 3-2 victory against New England College.

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales struck for the opening goal at the 3:10 mark of the first period. Forward Samantha Kawejsza (Warners, NY) put back the rebound of Kathy Ensor's (St. Louis, Mo.) missed shot.

The Wildcats increased their lead to two goals when Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) dumped the puck into the NEC zone where Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) retrieved it and put it past Ashley Castriotta for the score.

The Pilgrims answered five minutes later on the penalty kill. Erica Lissner got the puck behind the net and scored the short-handed on a wrap-around shot. After killing a five-minute major penalty, NEC tied the game at the 12:46 mark when GinaBeth Manganiello put back Vicki Shaw's shot for the power play goal.

Tracy's (Hanson, Mass.) goal was set up by a beautiful cross-ice pass from Martinsson that Tracy one-timed into the net.
