PAWTUCKET, RI – For the second day in a row, 65 minutes was not enough time to decide a winner between the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team and Becker College. The Wildcats and Hawks tied, 1-1, on Sunday.
Becker: 1-4-2, 1-1-2 CHC
Johnson & Wales: 0-5-3, 0-3-3 CHC
BC: Madison Rigby (1-3-2) 33 Saves, 1 Goal
JWU: Kami Weiner (0-5-3), 22, Saves, 1 Goal
Linn Fernström (JWU): 1 goal
Claudia Gee (BC): 1 Goal
Johnson & Wales snatched the first goal of the game midway through the first period. Linn Fernström's (Karlstad, Sweden) slap shot from the point hit Madison Rigby's stick and hoped over the Becker goalie's shoulder for the power play goal. It's the first goal of Fernstrom's collegiate career.
Becker took advantage of a power play opportunity in the second period to even the game. Claudia Gee put back the rebound of Bailey Coons' shot at the 8:42 mark.
Neither team could find a rhythm offensively in the third period and overtime. The Wildcats and Hawks combined for only 13 shots in the final 25 minutes of play.
The Wildcats are back at home on Sunday when they take on Colby at 1:40 p.m.
