Women’s Ice Hockey Drops 8-2 Decision to Sacred Heart

PAWTUCKET, RI – The Sacred Heart women's ice hockey team built a lead that Johnson & Wales University couldn't overcome. The Wildcats lost an 8-2 decision to the Pioneers on Saturday.

Johnson & Wales starts the year at 0-2 while Sacred Heart improved to 2-2.

SHU's Taylor Moreland scored just 1:45 into the game. The Pioneers added a Jayne Lewis goal just 84 seconds before the intermission. Moreland scored again in the second period then got the hat trick with a goal at the 3:13 mark of the third period.

Sophomore Julia Martinsson (Charlottenberg, Sweden) scored both of JWU's goals in the third period. Her first goal came at the 5:05 mark then she took a pass from Kathryn Mason (Grafton, Mass.) and scored in the 13th minute.

Johnson & Wales opens Colonial Hockey Conference action on Friday when the Wildcats welcome Morrisville State to Lynch Arena for a pair of games.
