PAWTUCKET, RI – For the second night in a row, the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team got solid goaltending, but couldn't come up with the offense needed to beat Endicott. The Wildcats lost a 2-0 game to the visiting Gulls on Saturday night.
The loss dropped JWU's record to 1-2 and 0-2 in the Colonial Hockey Conference. Endicott stayed undefeated at 3-0 overall, 2-0 in the league.
Michaela McNamara set up both of Endicott's goals. She fed Jillian Gibbs a long pass that resulted in a breakaway and EC's first goal of the night. In the second period, McNamara found Teneal Perry from behind the net and she chipped it in to make it 2-0.
Johnson & Wales had its chances to score, recording 17 shots, but Endicott goalkeeper Alyssa Peterson turned them all away. Endicott had a 43-17 advantage in shots. Sophomore Caitlin Sweet (Calgary, Alberta) took a team-high three shots. JWU goalie Julia Åberg (Stockholm, Sweden) made 41 saves in defeat.
Johnson & Wales is home next weekend for a pair of games against Stevenson starting with a 5:55 p.m. faceoff on Friday.
