Wildcats in Third After Day 1 of Empire 8 Championship

BALLSTON SPA, NY -- The Johnson & Wales University women's golf team is halfway to its first top-three finish of the season. After day one of the Empire 8 Championships at the Ballston Spa Country Club the Wildcats are in third place with a score of 369.

Johnson & Wales is just three strokes back of second-place Suffolk. Cortland State leads the way with an opening 331.

Turning in the lowest score of the day for the Wildcats was senior Hannah Hall with an opening 89. Two strokes back was sophomore Alexis Anastos.

Two JWU players had their lowest round of the fall on Saturday. Caroline Mettler carded a 93 and junior Hannah Lifschin posted a 96 on the first 18 holes. In her collegiate golf debut, Victoria Perez – who also plays on the JWU women's ice hockey team – shot a 121.

The championship concludes on Sunday with the final 18 holes.
