Fourth Quarter Costs Wildcats 68-52 Loss to Bates

WATERVILLE, Maine – A strong second quarter gave the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team the lead over Bates, but the Wildcats couldn't hold on for victory. The Bobcats outscored the Wildcats 23-7 in the fourth quarter as Johnson & Wales dropped its season opener, 68-52, on Friday during the Terrier Tip-Off, hosted by Thomas College.

Johnson & Wales:  0-1

Of Note:
Johnson & Wales was down by as many as 13 in the first quarter, but slowly chipped away at the Bobcats' lead. JWU went on a 15-1 run to take a 30-29 lead on a Dede Stevenson layup with 1:38 left in the half.

Britney Gallagher's layup at the 6:16 mark of the third quarter staked the Wildcats to a 43-35 lead. Unfortunately, Johnson & Wales would only score one more point the rest of the quarter as Bates pulled away for the victory.

Leading the Wildcats was Gallagher at 13 points with Ally Mishol right behind at nine and Stevenson scored nine in her JWU debut.

Bates had the advantage inside with a 40-28 points in the paint margin as well as 55-36 rebounding advantage.
