BOSTON – A lack of offense in the second quarter dug a hole for the Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team that it could not climb out of on Thursday. The Wildcats dropped a 70-61 decision at Emmanuel.
Emmanuel: 14-6, 10-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 12-9, 8-4 GNAC
The Wildcats only scored six points in the second quarter as the Saints built up a 45-22 halftime lead. Johnson & Wales battled back in the second half, outscoring Emmanuel 39-25, but the deficit was too large for JWU to overcome.
Johnson & Wales shot 44.2 percent for the game – including 56 percent in the second half – but Emmanuel was too much for the Wildcats inside. The Saints had a 37-30 rebounding, which led to 12 second-chance points and 38 points in the paint.
Senior Raquel Pederzani scored 15 of her game-high 21 points in the second half. Ally Mishol was next with 12 points and Britney Gallagher added 10. Kristen Habbel produced eight points, seven rebounds and six assists.
The Wildcats are back at home on Saturday to take on Rivier at 1 p.m.
