PROVIDENCE, RI – The Johnson & Wales University women's basketball team couldn't sustain its third-quarter momentum on Thursday against Suffolk. The Rams scored a layup in the final 30 seconds for the 70-67 victory.

JWU: 10-8, 6-6 GNAC
Trailing 40-38 at halftime, the Wildcats outscored Suffolk, 20-9, in the third quarter to take a 58-49 lead into the final period. Unfortunately, the Rams returned the favor in the fourth with a 21-9 margin that was the difference.
Bobbie Whitehead (Bronx, NY) made a layup with 58 seconds left to tie the game at 67-67, but Jordan Hipwell answered 30 seconds later with the go-ahead basket.
Five Wildcats reached double figures, led by Kristen Habbel (Phoenixville, Pa.) with 16 points. Guard Raquel Pederzani (Coventry, RI) nearly had a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds as well as five assists. Whitehead came off the bench to score 10 points.
Johnson & Wales is at home on Saturday to host Simmons at 3 p.m.
