Women’s Basketball Falls To St. Joseph of Connectiut, 77-54

The women's basketball squad fell to St. Joseph's of Connecticut, 77-54 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the O'Donnell Center on Thursday evening.

JWU was led by junior Chrissy Toth (Queens, N.Y.) with 13 points, four steals and three assists while sophomore Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) had 12 points and two boards in the setback for the Wildcats.  Freshman Kaitlin Kenney (Bradford, Conn.) was also in double figures with 10 points and a team-high six caroms for JWU.

St. Joseph was led by Devon Diliberto with 26 points, five assists and four rebounds while Brianna Ferraro had 15 points, three boards and two assists in the victory for the Blue Jays.  St. Joseph held a 50-30 advantage in rebounds for the game while connecting on 12 baskets from behind the three-point stripe.

St. Joseph controlled the game early and led 21-4 after a pair of free throws by Ferraro with 10:51 left in the first half.  The Blue Jays took the 36-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.  The host Blue Jays continued to build on their lead throughout the second half and cruised to the 77-54 victory.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 7-12 overall and 3-4 in the GNAC while St. Joseph's of Connecticut improves to 11-5 on the year and 3-3 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, January 28th when they travel to Mount Ida for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 3:00 p.m.
