Women’s Basketball Falls To Emerson, 71-58

The women's basketball squad fell to Emerson, 71-58 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game at the Harborside Recreation Center on Thursday evening.

JWU was paced by sophomore Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) with 15 points and five rebounds while junior Chrissy Toth (Queens, N.Y.) also had 15 points with three rebounds and three steals for JWU.  Freshman Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points and five boards in the setback for the Wildcats.

Junior Olivia DiNucci (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the way for Emerson with 18 points and eight rebounds while fellow junior Shannon Norton (Middletown, N.J.) had 15 points, two rebounds and four assists for the Lions.  Sophomore Olivia Connors (Windham, N.H.) was also in double-figures with 17 points and seven boards in the victory. 

Emerson controlled the action early in the contest and had a 21-10 lead after a three-pointer by DiNucci with 10:42 left in the first half. The visiting Lions led 30-17 on a layup by Connors with just under four minutes on the clock.  The Wildcats would close out the half on a 13-5 run and trailed 35-30 heading into the locker room at halftime.  Emerson shot 51.7 % from the field in the half with a 20-11 rebounding advantage.

The visiting Lions continued to build on their lead early in the second half when a three pointer by Norton put the team up 49-36.  Emerson led by as many as 17 points late in the second half before taking the 71-58 victory.

With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 7-10 for the year and 3-2 in the GNAC while Emerson improves to 7-10 on the season and 4-1 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, January 21st when they host St. Joseph's of Maine for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
