Women’s Basketball Posts 88-77 Win Over Albertus Magnus
The women's basketball posted an 88-77 overtime victory against Albertus Magnus in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game on the road on Monday afternoon.
JWU was paced by sophomore Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) with 27 points, four steals and two rebounds while freshman Natalie DiCocco (Media, Pa.) tallied 17 points, seven boards, six steals and three assists in the victory for the Wildcats. Junior Chrissy Toth (Queens, N.Y.) was also in double-figures with 13 points, six assists and three boards for JWU.
Lindsay Karle led the way for Albertus Magnus with 25 points and two rebounds while Bianca Brown added 20 points and six boards in the setback for the Falcons. Annie Raucci notched a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for AMC.
Albertus Magnus jumped out to an early 9-2 lead just one minute into the contest. Johnson & Wales then used a 12-4 run, capped by a free throw by DiCocco to take the 14-13 lead with 12:57 left in the first half. The Wildcats would lead 39-37 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The host Falcons opened the second half with a 15-6 run and led 52-45 after a pair of free throws by Karle with just over 15 minutes left in regulation. The Falcons led 66-60 with under five minutes left before the Wildcats used a 12-6 run and knotted the game at 72-72 on a layup by freshman Kaitlin Kenney (Bradford, Conn.) with :49 seconds left on the clock. That would be all the scoring in regulation as the score remained tied 72-72.
Albertus Magnus led 77-74 after a layup by Raucci with 2:59 left on the clock of the first overtime period. That would be it for the Falcons, however as the Wildcats scored the last 14 points of the game, including six by Juron, en route to the 88-77 victory.
With the win Johnson & Wales improves to 7-9 for the year and 3-1 in the GNAC while Albertus Magnus falls to 8-6 on the season and 1-3 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, January 19th when they host Emerson for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at 7:00 p.m.
